⭐ SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
9. Len Romano - Becoming a Beacon

MAJOR DEVELOPMENT:

This morning, Len Romano (retired nonprofit CEO, SCORE business mentor, and Voice Up advisor) introduced Voice Up to Dr. Anthony Burrow at Cornell University—the director of Cornell's Purpose Science and Innovation Exchange (PSiX).

Why This Matters:

  • Dr. Burrow leads the world's premier purpose research center (launched April 2025)
  • Cornell publicly stated they need real-world data on how purpose affects youth wellbeing
  • Voice Up has exactly that data: 470+ students, 82+ universities, 134 countries, 97.1% satisfaction
  • This connection could lead to formal research partnerships, academic validation, and transformational credibility

The Beacon Story:

Len Romano spent 6-7 weeks engaging with Voice Up (conversations, website testing, strategic feedback, validation) before activating his professional network. This morning's introduction represents:

  • 40+ years of Len's network cultivation
  • 10 months of Voice Up's systematic data collection
  • Perfect timing (Cornell needs partners; Voice Up has validation data)
  • The power of one trusted advisor recognizing value and making a strategic connection

"Without consultation, plans are frustrated. But, with many counselors, they succeed."

— Proverbs 15:22 (Len's Quote)

🔆 The Power of Being a Beacon:

Len embodies the Beacon theme: His one-to-one conversations with Art Fuller over 6-7 weeks led to a single email this morning that could transform Voice Up's trajectory. This is how beacons work—one authentic connection creating ripples that extend far beyond what anyone expected.

NEW INITIATIVE
10. Weekly News Feed on Purpose-Driven Research

In connection with the Len Romano/Cornell partnership opportunity, Voice Up is launching a weekly news feed featuring the latest purpose-driven research from Cornell, Harvard, Stanford, and other leading institutions.

What This Means:

  • Weekly summaries of new purpose research findings
  • How academic discoveries connect to Voice Up's real-world work
  • Practical applications for members' projects and lifelines
  • Building bridge between research and implementation

Why Now:

The Cornell connection highlights how Voice Up's practical work validates academic research. This weekly feed will keep our community informed about cutting-edge purpose science while demonstrating how Voice Up members are living examples of what researchers are discovering.

Coming Soon: First edition launches next week

Breakout Sessions

Session 1: BEACON Reflection Questions

Small Group Discussion (3-5 people)

Question 1:

Think about your current sphere of influence—whether it's 5 people or 500. Where have you seen one simple conversation create a ripple effect that extended beyond what you expected? What made that conversation different?

Question 2:

What prevents us from recognizing our potential to be a beacon for others? How can we overcome the feeling that our sphere is "too small" to matter?

Question 3:

If you were to intentionally become a beacon in one specific area of your life this week, what would that look like? Who would benefit? What one conversation could you initiate?

Session 2: Miracle Has a Monster - Mobile App Demo

• Walk through the new mobile app functionality
• How technology enhances accessibility to Emily's story
• Feedback and suggestions for improvement
• App development opportunity: Voice Up is exploring offering custom app development for member projects

Session 3: One Year Anniversary Book Discussion

Assignment: Read the First Introduction Chapter

Discussion Topics:
• Themes and messages from the introduction
• Stories and moments that resonate most strongly
• How individual stories weave together into collective purpose
• The book's potential impact on those discovering Voice Up

Every Person Can Be a Beacon

Voice Up succeeds not through massive campaigns or viral moments, but through authentic individual connections that accumulate into something extraordinary.

The Len Romano Story Reminds Us:

Sometimes the most important thing you can do is spend 6-7 weeks truly getting to know someone, validating their work, and then—when the time is right—make one strategic introduction. That's being a beacon. That's how worlds change.

Every conversation matters.

Every story has power.

Every person can be a beacon.
